The River Brathay. The Lake District
A short walk from Elterwater brings you out on the River Brathay. Here you get some great views over the water and up to the Langdale Pikes. This is one of the places that got me into landscape photography, standing on the river’s edge and looking up at the iconic Langdale Pike skyline
There’s a path that follows the edge of the water which gives you a slightly different view as you walk through some trees and on the water’s edge.

Beginner – This is a gentle walk along the river with plenty of places to take in the views.

From the River Brathay you get great views up and down the river. If you come on an early morning you can often see mist rising from the water.
In the distance you can see the Langdale Pikes which offer up some photographic opportunities, as you can get the reflections in the River Brathay.

Go for a walk
My recommendation for a walk at the River Brathay is from Elterwater to Skelwith Bridge and back again. The short walks offers amazing views of the Langdale Pikes, Elterwater, some waterfalls and you can get a cake at the cafe or pub at Skelwith Bridge. For an easy walk it has it all.
